During 1949, the Liebherr family business was created by Hans Liebherr. His first claim to fame was the success of his inexpensive and easy-to-assemble mobile tower crane. It was upon this creation that the company's foundation flourished under. Nowadays, Liebherr has grown to become amongst the world's leading manufacturers of construction equipment. The business has also gained the reputation of being the accredited supplier of technically innovative user-oriented services and products in various fields. The business has presently become a "Group" working in every continent with more than 35,000 workers and more than 130 companies across the world.

The holding company of the Liebherr Group is Liebherr-International AG. Liebherr-International AG is located within Bulle, Switzerland and is operating by the Liebherr family members. Now, the family business is being managed in the 2nd generation by Dr. H.C. Willi Liebherr and his sister Dr. H.C. Isolde Liebherr. Ever since 2012, some of the active individual divisions have been represented by third generation members of the family such as: Patricia Ruf, Stefanie Wohlfarth, Jan Liebherr and Sophie Albrecht. These family members have been working together to help set up the family business' course in the future. They are staying on top of large-scale industrial projects and residential buildings all around the globe.
Hans Liebherr started to build his company in the year 1949, in a tiny town called Kirchdorf within southern Germany. Kirchdorf, presently supports one of Liebherr's 20 manufacturing locations.
