The company Potain was established in La Clayette, France during the year 1928. Ever since that time, the company has grown into a leading manufacturer of cranes. The company is responsible for more than 100,000 cranes in operation all-around the world. Now, the company manufacturers over 60 models from different manufacturing facilities inside France, China, Germany, Italy and Portugal. The Potain family makes 3 different tower crane families. The self-erecting cranes are the smallest kinds in the Potain range. These cranes vary from 1 ton to 7.98 ton capacity. The next size up is the top-slewing cranes which are both bigger and higher. These cranes vary from 7.98 to 64 tons. Additionally, these are the largest custom-designed special application cranes. These models provide a reach capacity of 160 tons.



Some of the main innovations with the company include the LLC series of hoists, the Vision Cab and the Dialog control system. The growing reputation of the company has expanded their appeal with different models. Potain cranes are often found on conventional construction sites, bridge building projects, power stations, ship-building projects and shipbuilding yards.



Two of Manitowac's largest facilities are based within the US. Their manufacturing facility is based in the state of Wisconsin. In this state, both the tower crane parts and crawler cranes are constructed within the state of Pennsylvania inside the Shady Grove facility. Here boom trucks and mobile cranes are built. Regional offices are situated within Brazil and in Mexico. As well, the extensive dealer network situated all over Canada and the United States offers coverage and support unrivalled by any other crane producer.
