Lift Truck Components in More Detail
There are hundreds of parts that make up a forklift. The lift truck's major parts include the frame of the truck, the engine components, the overhead guard, the tilt cylinders and the wheels. In addition, a lift truck consists of various types of attachments. All the parts that make up a forklift are of equal importance as they work together to make the functions of the machine possible. The next paragraphs describe in detail several of the forklift parts.
The Overhead Guard - this guard forms the forklift truck's metal roof. It sits above the cab area and protects the machine operator while he or she is sitting and driving. The overhead guard makes sure that nothing falling from above onto the truck will harm the driver or damage the controls in the cab. The overhead guard is essential to the frame assembly on several models.
The Mast - the mast is a vertical assembly made of interlocking rails and mounted either to the front axle or the forklift frame. The mast provides lateral stability and enables the forks to move up and down. The interlocking rails could either have bushings or bushings as guides. There are a couple of ways the mast can be operated: chain operated with motive power provided by a hydraulic motor or hydraulically by one or more hydraulic cylinders.
Lift Truck Carriage - The carriage is the part that the forks and different other types of attachments are mounted to. Actually, the carriage is directly connected to the hydraulic cylinder and is attached by chains. To enable the forks to be raised and lowered, the carriage can have either rollers or bushings to guide it in the interlocking mast rails.
Load Back Rest - a back rest is a metal rack that keeps a load from falling backwards while the carriage is raised to its full height. The back rest is either welded or bolted on to the carriage.
Lift Truck Attachments - a range of attachments may be fixed to the front of the lift truck. The most common attachment is forks. What's more, there are rotators, rollers, L-shaped members, roll clamps, pole handlers and and all that. These different types of attachments are really handy for moving various types of loads.
