Aerial Manlift Dangers
Aerial manlifts are machinery which utilize either a series of linked, folding supports, like an articulated boom lift or a scissor lift or a boom lift. These industrial kinds of machine enable workers to access hard-to-reach places. In some ways, these machines have made construction a lot safer and easier, although, the general safety which comes with the unparalleled mobility of aerial manlifts has implemented a new list of hazards that could accidentally cause serious injury or even death to drivers who are unaware.
Falls
Normally, falls can take place when workers are unable to correctly secure the lift platform or are unable to wear a safety harness. Falls could occur when somebody on the platform acts inappropriately and partakes in an activity like climbing the guard rails to gain added height. What's more, mishaps can be caused if the operator on the ground causes the equipment to move in an unexpected motion before the employee being correctly secured.
Numerous workers also fall because the base of their equipment is inadvertently struck by some other heavy thing. During this situation, the force of the blow below becomes amplified by the length of the lift, therefore causing the worker to be suddenly catapulted off of the platform. Obviously this hazardous action has catastrophic results.
Tip-Overs
Boom lifts are prone to tipping over. Tip overs are more common in articulated boom lifts, but can happen in any type of lift. Since boom lifts are able to move both horizontally and vertically, they could change the equipment's overall center of gravity. Therefore, if the lift is over loaded or parked on an incline of some type, extending the boom completely when it is in the wrong position could result in a tip-over situation.
