History
Salzgitter Maschinenbau AG was started during 1919. The company was originally established by an engineer Anton Raky. Raky was a pioneer in oil drilling and modern drilling technology. The initial company name was Anton Raky, Tiefbohrungen in Salzgitter.
During the year 1937, the cornerstone for SMAG was laid when the manufacturing facility was purchased by the Salzgitter Group for constructing drilling machinery. During 1986, the company bought the grab product division from Peiner AG. Soon after, Peiner was developed into an international brand name in the following years. At present, SMAG is the world's market leader, using grabs for waste disposal, global cargo handling applications and agriculture.
